SCSI Hot Swap Hard Disks

scsi hot swapWelcome to our online store, specialising in SCSI Hot Swap hard drives for a range of different server models, disk brands and speeds. We aim to bring you the lowest prices for an additional or replacement hot swappable hard disk.

Most modern servers have the ability to use hot pluggable or swappable hard disks as part of the disk array. The disks are usually housed in a caddy or tray and are easily unclipped, removed and replaced. The ability to remove and replace a faulty disk will keep your server up and running for a long as possible, will minimise data loss and downtime.

Most SCSI hot swap drives are compatible with other servers, but it is also common for manufacturers to enforce hardware requirements within their servers. Also, you will need to replace the faulty disk with one of the same size to make sure that your RAID array is consistent.

Shop By SCSI Disk Speed

Like ATA and SATA drives, SCSI hard disks come in different speeds. If you are replacing a faulty SCSI disk on your server, you will need to ensure that you get the matching spec one. There are a few different types, including Ultra-160 and Ultra-320, which can both operate at different speeds. There is also a newer Ultra-640 speed which is not yet very common. See this page at wikipedia for more information on SCSI disk types and speeds.

Shop By SCSI Disk Brand

No one company has the exclusivity on making SCSI hot swappable hard disks and therefore some brands will be cheaper than others. You may find that server manufacturers such as IBM use their own SCSI hard disks, but Dell or HP may use various different ones. When replacing a hot swap hard disk, you will need to ensure that the size, speed and data throughput is consistent across the entire array, other wise you may leave your server open to data loss or corruption. It may be safer to replace a faulty disk with exactly the same make and model.

Shop By Server Brand

Each computer server manufacturer has a different specification for the use of SCSI hot swappable drives. They will also have differing types of caddies or trays in which the SCSI disk sits to be inserted into the array. If you are confused about which disk to get, start by looking here at those offered for named server brands. It is important that you choose the appropriate disk type, size and speed when replacing a faulty unit.
